Joyce Carol Oates (1938 - )
Famous Works Include: Wonderland (1971), The Triumph of the Spider Monkey (1976), Mysteries of Winterthurn (1984), Nemesis (1990), and Blood Mask (2006).
Oates published her first book in 1963, and has since published over fifty novels, as well as many volumes of short stories, poetry, and non-fiction. With a reputation for prolificacy, Oates has been one of the leading American novelists since the 1960s.

Jack London (1876 - 1916)
Famous Works Include: The Call of the Wild (1903), The Sea-Wolf (1904), White Fang (1906), "To Build a Fire" (1908), and Martin Eden (1908).
Jack London was a self-made millionaire as well as a socialist who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Oakland, California. A pioneer in commercial magazine fiction, he was one of the first Americans to make a lucrative career exclusively from writing.
